I'll give you some EXTREME TIPS.

Very extreme.

. Play solos over diminished chords using the major blues scale. That way you have even more pressure to stop the solo sounding like a dischordal mess.
. Don't limit yourself to one pick. Hold another in between your second and third fingers. This opens you to an entire world of new posibilities.
. Learn a song that's not in your usual style. A country song or something. That way you'll get a better ear for hybrid style.
. When playing a solo, hit a note outside of the scale you're playing from, but don't resolve it quickly. Let it ring for at least a bar. It'll give a good feeling of resolution, and your listeners won't think it's a mistake.
. Learn fret-hand tapping. Which is basically being able to start off a lick without picking. Work on your fourth finger first, since it's the weakest, and as soon as you can do that, work up to the third, then second, then first.
. Pedals bad.

Learn some easy chords first:

D, E, C, Eminor, Aminor, Dminor, and G.

Next, learn the Pentatonic Minor scale.
Next, learn the minor scale.
Next, learn the Pentatonic major scale.
Next, learn the major scale.

Learn a song. An easy song.

Practice barre chords:
Like this:
F
e-1
B-1
G-2
D-3
A-3
E-1

and B:
This:
e-4
B-4
G-4
D-4
A-2
E-x

Once you get those, learn the minor chords for those variations. Learn some basic music theory. Then, you should know enough to start:
1. Jamming with friends.
2. Learning some songs.
3. Doing that stuff Gear told you.

Oh, and I did give you a tip on tapping.

. Learn fret-hand tapping. Which is basically being able to start off a lick without picking. Work on your fourth finger first, since it's the weakest, and as soon as you can do that, work up to the third, then second, then first.

And it's a lot more usefull than, "LOOK AT ME I CAN GO 19-15-12 IM WINNER!!!!".

First off, most of the great guitarists, Clapton, Rhoads, whatever, were around before mass pedal production could begin. They got everything they needed from the amp. I mean, think about it. The pedals are covering up your playing, making it just sound fancy and deflating the entire point of playing the guitar in the first place.

The way I see it, pedals are for perfomance. Otherwise I don't use them.
